The fifth seminar in the 2011/12 educational research seminars series run by the Learning Institute at QMUL, presents the results of a study designed to better understand the feedback practices of academic staff at a UK research-led institution, a key finding of which is that an individual’s understanding of the purpose of feedback has a strong influence on their practice.

EVENT - 9,000 Ways to Engage: SLTN Annual Conference

The Student Learning and Teaching Network (SLTN) Conference will be focusing on the diversity of initiatives, projects and opportunities that students can get involved in during their time at University.
With the fees rise on the horizon, the SLTN want to continue promoting a positive attitude to getting involved in Learning and Teaching, and encouraging students to creatively engage with their Institution instead of conceding to the increasingly 'consumer' stance.
The one day conference will encourage delegates to share their experiences of active student engagement at their home institutions, bringing together “9,000 Ways to Engage” through the course of the day.
They welcome staff to their events, but strongly encourage them to bring along interested students.

EVENT - Widening Access to Higher Education:
Scottish, UK and European Policy Dimensions

This seminar will disseminate findings drawn from the EU Sixth Framework Project Lifelong Learning Policy and Practice in Europe (LLL2010), which ran from 2005 – 2011. The project involved 12 European countries and Russia and investigated various aspects of lifelong learning policy and practice, including higher education, adult education and workplace learning. The potential of lifelong learning to promote social inclusion as well as economic growth was a major focus of the study.

EVENT - Collaboration in the new HE landscape

The English HE Sector is rightly proud of its world- class reputation including its commitment to widening access and participation, employer engagement and local and regional regeneration. A crucial element in achieving these goals is the strength of partnership working and collaboration between Higher Education Institutes and Further Education Colleges. Many of these partnerships have strong historical roots and are critical in facilitating participation in HE by under-represented and disadvantaged groups, and meeting the skills and knowledge needs of employers and employees. However, the introduction of contested 'quota' funding is placing these partnerships under severe strain.
This Conference, organised by the Association of Colleges (AoC), Universities UK and GuildHE, aims to explore jointly common problems and issues and identify new models of collaboration that will work in a more market-orientated system.

Previously known as the Short-term Fellowship, the SCORE OER Residential Course is an intensive, one-week course providing education specialists with the foundational knowledge needed to engage with Open Educational Resources (OER). The course is designed for those with little or no experience of OER and provides a practical grounding in both creation and use of OER.
