This seminar seeks to explore issues arising from the report
‘Deal or no Deal? Expectation and experiences of first-year students in Art
& Design’ commissioned by the Higher Education in Art and Design (HEAD)
trust and the Art Design Media Subject Centre.
At a time when national policy provides a sharp focus on the
student experience and students are faced with considerable rises in tuition
fees, this Report is particularly timely. Based on more than 700 responses from
first-year students, it highlights a number of challenges facing providers of
programmes in Art & Design.
A final report of the evidence and recommendations will be
prepared and published by the Higher Education Academy for use by the sector.
Outcomes of the event will also be presented at the HEA annual conference.
